Lifestyle

Life here revolves around the water. Teeming with bright corals and exotic fish, the surrounding waters are ideal for swimming, fishing and diving. Snorkeling will also give you a glimpse of the community’s rich aquatic resources.

Mote Tropical Research Laboratory at MM 24 is a fully equipped marine science facility dedicated to marine research and education in the Florida Keys. Dr. Dave Vaughan, its Executive Director, is manager of the Coral Restoration program.

About eight miles off the island, you’ll find the Looe Key reef. It’s a diver’s dream, with an average depth of 15 feet, and a maximum of 105. It sits right on the edge of a barrier reef and attracts giant groupers and magnificent sharks.

If you’re not up to exploring Summerland Key’s watery depths, you can always go on a leisurely boat tour. Watch the sunset with your loved ones and let Summerland Key’s natural beauty engulf you.

You can also have a private island to yourself. Melody Key boasts a 3,500 square-foot villa powered by solar energy. This luxurious vacation rental has three bedroom suites with their own balconies and bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, and lush foliage.
