Ramrod Key

Named for a ship that wrecked on a reef south of the island sometime in the 19th century, Ramrod Key is anything but catastrophic or disorderly. Far from it – quiet backstreets, lush greenery, and calming views of the ocean will put you at ease as you go about your daily routine.

Located at Mile Marker 27.5 – about 27 miles from Key West and right across the Niles Channel Bridge from Summerland Key – this island community gives you plenty of opportunities to see what life is like off the beaten track.

Ramrod Key Real Estate – Ramrod Key, FL Homes for Sale

The majority of residences are located along the eastern shore, north and south of US1. The key itself is comprised mostly of wetlands and transitional wetlands, particularly in areas south of the highway, and which cover nearly everything except the eastern shore.

The housing stock is mostly made up of single-family homes and mobile homes. You’ll also find vacant lots for new constructions and manufactured homes.

The average home has 3 to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with floor plans that fall between 800 to almost 3,000 square feet.

Luxury homes often have exquisite tropical landscaping, elevators, docks, access to private beaches, and fantastic views of the water.

Lifestyle

Ramrod Key’s natural beauty lends itself to a lot of fun and relaxing outdoor activities. Go swimming, fishing, snorkeling, or kayaking in the clear waters. The Gulf and the Atlantic are easily accessed by boat from the docks.

Observe wildlife up close – wonderful birds like egrets, great herons, brown pelicans, and ibis can be seen in and around the island.

It’s also a popular destination for divers from all over the country. The Looe Key Sanctuary Preservation Area is just 5.5 nautical miles south of the key, making it a popular jump-off point for those who want to see the Looe Key reef in all its glory.

Picnic Island is a five-minute boat ride away. This small, secluded island is perfect for a laidback afternoon with friends and family. The island’s serene, noise-free environment will help you unwind.
