One of the more populated of the Keys, Big Coppitt is still an island paradise despite having a population density comparable to a suburban neighborhood. The island includes a Fire/Rescue station, as well as several businesses and three churches, bringing it even more under the classification of a suburban area. This is a suburban area, however, that’s never very far from the ocean, and that certainly sets it apart from the majority of communities in the US. Not only is it simply “near the ocean”, it is island living at its absolute finest in the Florida Keys.
Big Coppitt Key Real Estate
Big Coppitt is mostly a residential area for the Keys, and, possibly surprisingly, a significant portion of the homes on Big Coppitt are vacant most of the time, because many people only reside there seasonally. This abundance of empty homes makes for a good real estate scenario. Big Coppitt is almost solely a residential area, having only a few shops and restaurants on it, but it is in a very central location to the rest of the Keys, with easy access to one another thanks to US Highway 1 running right through the middle of Big Coppitt and connecting it to several of the other Keys.
Big Coppitt does, however, have three parks located on it, not to mention the most obvious benefit of residing in the Florida Keys —constant access to the beach. It may seem unusual at first, to live in what looks like a suburb comprised mainly of single-family homes, yet still have only a few minute’s drive from any point on the island until you’re at the beach, but you’d probably adjust to it fairly quickly considering how wonderful the area is.
Homes for Sale in Big Coppitt Key Florida
Big Coppitt is primarily made up of single-family homes as well as mobile homes, many of which are unoccupied for significant portions of the year due to seasonal residents —living here, you would have far fewer neighbors than the number of homes might lead you to believe. While a bit sparse in terms of amenities, there are a few shops in the area, three churches, and three public parks, one of which has a playground and another one with a basketball court.
Proximity to the ocean is a given, and it’s just as beautiful as any of the keys, which is to say, absolutely stunning. Big Coppitt is also home to a Fire/Rescue station that services Monroe County, Florida, which encompasses the Florida Keys.
