Key West

Happy hour never ends at Key West, or “Margaritaville” as it’s called. Everyone, from the conventional to the outlandish, regular Joes to famous writers like Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams, is drawn to the island’s carefree vibe.

And it’s not just spring breakers or transient artists you’ll find here –there’s a sizeable population of permanent residents as well. Natives, or those who were born and raised in Key West, proudly call themselves “Conchs.”

Many Conch families, who boast a unique heritage of Bahamian, New Englander, and Cuban, have been here for generations, and have never thought of leaving the island community.

Key West Real Estate – Key West Homes for Sale

Key West covers about eight square miles and has a population of over 25,000. It’s home to a number of distinctive neighborhoods:

  • Historic Old Town is considered the most desirable neighborhood, thanks to the restaurants, tourist attractions, and nightlife that infuse it with vibrant energy.
  • Bahama Village, once an unattractive section of the key, is now a hip neighborhood with trendy restaurants and art galleries.
  • New Town, Casa Marina, and Truman Annex are mostly residential and more laidback.

Key West Luxury Homes, Waterfront Properties and Single-Family Homes

The housing stock is comprised primarily of single-family homes and condos. If you’re looking for ocean side homes, waterfront estates, and move-in ready units, then you’re bound to find something in Key West. Modest homes are also available further inland.

The average single-family home has 3 to 4 bedrooms and bathrooms. Condos typically have 1 to 3 bedrooms and 1 to 2 bathrooms.

Luxury homes can have as many as 8 bedrooms, along with oversized yards, outdoor pools, boat dockages, covered parking, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic.

Lifestyle

Here you’ll have plenty of opportunity to relax, socialize, and connect with nature. Go on a romantic sunset cruise and keep an eye out for dolphins. Try snorkeling in the deep blue waters or kayaking in the backcountry.

Observe flora and fauna at the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge. The lush mangrove forests will stun you, while sightings of gorgeous birds like the white-crowned pigeon, magnificent frigate bird, and of course, the great white heron, make for a memorable experience.

If you’re looking for some action, come to Fantasy Fest, the key’s own version of Mardi Gras. This annual 10-day party is a colorful, fun-filled affair that includes a parade, street fair, and poster contest.

The Hemingway Home and Museum, where Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway wrote some of his most important works, is open for tours and private events. The bookstore offers the full array of the late author’s novels, short stories, poems, and biographies.
